IF HAC IS THE CAR, THACKRAY'S 2022 INVESTOR'S GUIDE IS THE ENGINE

HORIZONS SEASONAL ROTATION ETF (HAC)

An ETF For All Seasons

Did you know that capital markets can have seasons like the weather?

The key idea behind seasonal investing is to invest in certain asset classes or sectors during a time period where they are historically favourable (i.e.: have generally delivered positive returns) and avoid investing during a period of time when they are not historically favourable (i.e.: have generally delivered negative or lower returns).

The Horizons Seasonal Rotation ETF (“HAC”) uses a proprietary, seasonal rotation investment strategy which seeks to deliver absolute returns in most market conditions. HAC is an ETF solution that implements the seasonal investment strategies pioneered by Brooke Thackray, a research analyst with Horizon ETFs and the author of Thackray’s Investor Guide, an annual almanac of the historical seasonal investment returns of widely followed asset classes and sectors.

The “Halloween Effect” or “Sell in May” strategies, for example, are observed historical seasonal trends. Equities have historically tended to deliver better returns from early November through to late April and early May. Seasonal investment analysts have generally favoured being in equities during this period, while taking more defensive investment positions between May and October.

HALLOWEEN EFFECT

From 1977 through 2021, for the six months starting November 1st and ending the following April 30th, the S&P/TSX Composite Index has posted an average annualized gain of +7.09%*.

Rotating a portfolio in anticipation of these historical trends is designed to deliver returns that are potentially superior to a static investment in broad markets. As seasonal periods are never the same, this investment strategy is supported by additional fundamental and technical analysis.

HAC’s core position consists of broad markets at historically seasonally favourable times of the year, and money market securities at historically seasonally unfavourable times of the year. The strategy allocates from the core portfolio to various sectors when those sectors offer potentially favourable opportunities.

With the Horizons Seasonal Rotation ETF (HAC), you gain access to an ETF that uses a proprietary, seasonal rotation investment strategy which seeks to provide long term capital appreciation in most market conditions.

SELL IN MAY

From 1977 through 2020, for the six months starting May 1st and ending the following October 31stthe S&P/TSX Composite Index has posted a compounded annualized gain of +1.03**.
